(Walnut, CA) After an easy opening-game victory on Friday by the Mt. SAC Men's Basketball Team, the Mounties were in a hard-fought second game of the 9th Annual Classic Saturday night.
The Mounties fell 53-51 but not without a valiant effort in the closing minutes of the game.
In just his second game back, after an early-season injury, guard Corey Grant (8 pts., 6 reb) sank crucial free throws late in the game but Orange Coast College held on for the 53-51 victory.
Leading the way for the Mounties was Evan Council (7 of 9 FT) and Darrell Williams (6 of 7 FT, 4 steals) with 11 points each, while guard Marc Howard Jr. added 10 points.
The Mounties trailed by only a bucket 25-23 in a low-scoring first half.
The second half was more of the same as each team scored 28 points.
Also scoring for the Mounties (3-5) was Minfeke Sanoe with seven points (3 of 3 FG, 5 reb).
Mt. SAC plays its third game of the tournament with a game against rival Cerritos Sunday afternoon.
