Spartans Hang on for Win over Jaguars

MiraCosta men's basketball players play defense during a recent game.

In what was a low scoring basketball game the MiraCosta men's basketball game hung on to prevail over the Southwestern College Jaguars by a final score of 53-47.  With the win the Spartans improve to 3-2 in conference play.

After the first 10 minutes MiraCosta had just nine points on the scoreboard but a defensive adjustment led to multiple fast break opportunities that got the Spartans going.  At the end of the first half Devynn Wakefield scored MiraCosta's final five points including a three point shot at the buzzer.  Heading into halftime the Spartans held on to a 26-22 lead.

In the second half MiraCosta kept the defensive pressure on and extended their lead.  Behind 16 points from sophomore guard Pat McLachlan and an inspired defensive effort, the Spartans finished the game and secured the win.

MiraCosta will play at home on Wednesday against Imperial Valley College at 6PM.  No spectators are allowed currently but the livestream will be available (link on the schedule page on this website.)
