SBVC Overcomes Slow Start to Roll Past Palo Verde

After a grueling game Wednesday against Copper Mountain College - and rematch at Copper Mountain on Monday on the horizon - Saturday's game against a .500 Palo Verde College might have been seen as a trap game for the San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team.

And when the Pirates scored the game's first six points, it might have looked like it even more.

But the Wolverines picked up their offense - and defense - and cruised to a 85-57 victory over Palo Verde on Saturday afternoon inside the SBVC Athletics Complex.

SBVC's defense put pressure on the Pirates on both ends of the court, forcing 27 Palo Verde turnovers in the game. The Wolverines turned those turnovers into 32 points, which helped SBVC pull away. And while the Wolverines weren't as sharp as they have been this season, they did outshoot Palo Verde, making 35 of their 76 shots (46.1 percent), while limiting Palo Verde to 21 pf 56 shots (37.5 percent).

The Wolverine's Dominique Daniels led all scorers Saturday, with 23 points, while also adding seven assists. Mubarak Michael had 14 points off the bench, while Anthony Bell had 12 (along with nine rebounds) and Chester Makoi had 10 points.

Karl Wright and Terry Daniels each had 10 points to lead the Pirates.
