Jamborees Draw a Record Number of Four-Year Coaches
Men's basketball programs now number 100 after three colleges add programs
The Southern California and Northern California jamborees saw a record number of four-year coaches in attendance. Thanks to tuition initiatives, quality education opportunities and a strong athletic competition levels, a record number of student-athletes are choosing to begin their educational paths and athletic careers at a California community college.
The Southern California Jamboree at Cerritos College saw a record 103 four-year college coaches in attendance. Coaches from as far away as Alaska, Kentucky and Illinois were attendance for the three-day event. The Northern California Jamboree at the City College of San Francisco, a two-day event, also enjoyed a bevy of four-year coaches in attendance.
The 2019-20 season, which tips off on October 31, will feature 100 teams after the addition of men's basketball programs at Golden West, Palo Verde and San Mateo colleges. Over the last two seasons, men’s basketball has seen an increase in participation to over 1,400 student athletes — with a record 1,431 players competing during the 2018-19 season.
