McLachlan Helps Spartans Cruise to Win Over Palomar

Pat McLachlan plays defense in the game.

Every time MiraCosta and Palomar play, it is a big game.  The cross-town rivalry has been around for decades and inspires great competition on both sides.  This time, MiraCosta got the best off Palomar, cruising to a 68-51 win.  With the victory the Spartans improve to 5-2 in conference play and for now hold second place.

From the tip MiraCosta was in control of the game. Their press dictated the action and created easy baskets while leaving the Comets confused and frustrated. Offensively the Spartans were sharp.  Patrick McLachlan led the way with 23 points, scoring five three point baskets.  Jordan Campbell also shot the ball well, making four three point shots in the first half that were a part of an important MiraCosta run.  Sophomore Carter Plousha added 12 points in a very efficient effort, shooting 4-5 from the floor, 2-2 from the 3 point line and 2-2 from the free throw line.

It was a group effort on the defensive end with the entire roster bringing energy to the court.  Jonathan Tchengang was the leading rebounder with a total of nine for the game.

MiraCosta will continue their quest for a post-season bid and will next be in action on Wednesday at Southwestern College.
