DAY ONE OF THE FC CLASSIC

The No. 1 Hornets were stunned on day one of the Fullerton College Classic taking their first loss of the season at the hands of No. 15 L.A. Southwest 69-67.

The death-blow for Fullerton came in the final seconds of the game when LA Southwest's Brandon Fredrick launched a deep desperation three-pointer that rattled into the rim giving Fullerton its first blemish of the season.

Fullerton came out a bit sluggish in the first half and the Cougars took advantage with an 8-3 lead with just under 16 minutes. Fullerton slowly got back into the game taking its first lead (24-22) on a three-pointer by Ronnie Stapp at the 4-minute mark. By halftime, FC owned a 33-27 edge.

During the first part of the second half, the Hornets seemed to be in control grabbing a 46-34 lead at 13:54 on a three-point shot by Kobe Newton. By the 8:51 mark, Fullerton owned it's largest lead of 14 (61-47) on another three by Javon Jones. LA Southwest sprinted back into the contest after a big 15-4 run (62-65) with 2 minutes left in regulation. The fight was on as both teams jockeyed for position with the Cougars launching the final shot for the win. 

Ronnie Stapp led FC in scoring with 15 points while bringing down 6 rebounds. Gaven Ramirez put in 13 points with 4 rebounds, and Kobe Newton scored 11 points. Chazz Hutchison had 8 points and 5 boards.

In the day's early games, No. 7 San Diego City defeated No. 16 Citrus 72-61, Chaffey beat Southwestern in a tight one 55-47, and No. 14 College of the Sequoias upset No. 5 West LA 70-66.
