Second Half Surge Gives SBVC Comfortable Win

All five San Bernardino Valley College starters scored in double figures as the Wolverines' men's basketball team picked up the pace in the second half to knock off Palo Verde College 101-69 Monday evening.

SBVC led the entire way, but the Pirates kept things close in the first half. The game was tied at 25 with 7:18 remaining in the first half, before the Wolverines found a way to pull away, leading by 11 at the break.

The second half was an entirely different story, as the Wolverines went on a 12-3 run early in the half to widen their lead to 19, and they built upon the lead from there. After making only 41 percent of its shots in the first half, SBVC picked up the pace in the second, scoring on 54.1 percent of its shots from the field - including 8 of 16 from three-point range - in the final 20 minutes.

Leading that charge was Brandon Thompson. The sophomore led all scorers with 25 points, including going 7-for-11 from three-point range on the night. Chester Makoi put up 13 points and had seven rebounds to help the cause, while Dominique Daniels added 12 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds for the Wolverines. Anthony Bell matched Daniels with 12 points and eight rebounds (and seven assists), while Armon Muldrew closed out the starting five with 12 points.

Palo Verde was led by Larry Hemingway, who had 18 points.

The Wolverines close out their home schedule this week with games Wednesday vs. Barstow (7 p.m.) and Saturday vs. Mt. San Jacinto (3 p.m.).
