After opening their season at the Miramar College basketball tournament the MiraCosta men's basketball team played two single games in the second week of the season, one against Cuyamaca College and the other against Santa Ana College.

In the first game the Spartans outscored the Coyotes 43 to 32 in the second half to run away with a 70-58 final.  Marcus Foster led the Spartans in scoring with 17 points including four three point shots. Mikhail Land added 16 points, four rebounds and two steals.   MiraCosta outrebounded Cuyamaca by ten, 44 to 34 and held them to 36% shooting from the floor and 25% shooting from behind the 3-point line.

In the second game of the week MiraCosta started slow and trailed to Santa Ana College 38-33 at halftime.  Another big second half, led by the shooting of Foster, propelled the Spartans to a narrow 76-71 victory.  Devyian Roberson led the Spartans in scoring with 23 points on 8-13 shooting.  Land contributed a double double with 15 points and ten rebounds.  Marcus Foster also added 15 points on five three point shots and Xavier Allison and Dirk Helaire Jr both scored eight points. Allison and sophomore forward Andrew Thomton both had eight rebounds.

The second half run was a combination of defensive energy, Foster's 3-point flurry and Robersons transition baskets.  Once the Spartans took the lead, Santa Ana never led again.

MiraCosta will next be in action on Friday, November 16th against El Camino College. The game will be at home and will tip off at 7PM.
