MEN’S BASKETBALL: OPENING CONFERENCE WITH A WIN

The No.2 Hornets began Orange Empire Conference-play at home Wednesday night and did not disappoint beating Santa Ana College 64-39.

The win gives Fullerton a 12-0 overall record with a 1-0 record in the OEC, while the Don loss moves them to 4-7 overall and 0-1 in conference.

After a couple of missed shots by both teams, Fullerton flipped the switch grabbing a 10-4 lead at the 12-minute mark. During the last four minutes of the first half, FC's Tawon Elston went on a tear scoring the team's last 10 points. By halftime, the Hornets held a 28-15 lead.

With a firm hold on the lead, the second half belonged to the Hornets as they went on a 23-7 run to go up 51-22 at the 10-minute mark.

Turnovers were key for Fullerton as they forced 27 to the Dons' 15. FC also out-shot the Dons 46.6% to 29.2%. It was the second time this season that the Hornets held a team under 40 points. They held Victor Valley to 39 points in a win on December 7th.

Tawon Elston was the game's leading scorer with 18 points. Ronnie Stapp and DJ Houston both put up 12 points. Houston lit up the stat sheet bringing down 7 rebounds, 8 assists, 7 steals, and a blocked shot. Jacob Eyman had 6 points, including a nice power-dunk.

Up Next: The Hornets (12-0 overall, 1-0 conference) will continue OEC-play this Friday, December 20th when they travel to Irvine Valley College. Tipoff is at 6:00 pm.
