SBVC Wins Hunter Classic with Strong Showing

Over the course of the three-day Alvin Hunter Classic at home, the San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team had to face a number of challenges all successful basketball teams must face.

Come from behind to win? Check.

Win in a close game? Check.

Withstand a late run by an opponent? Check.

And thanks to the work the Wolverines put in, they were rewarded with an 84-76 victory Sunday evening over West Los Angeles College in the championship game of the tournament.

The Wolverines struggled from the field early on, trailing by as many as 10 in the first half before finding their range. Down seven, the Wolverines went on an 8-0 run to take the lead, then went on a 10-2 run to open a five-point lead they would build on. SBVC went to the break with its biggest lead of the game, 40-29.

In the second half, SBVC was able to open its lead to 16 before the Wildcats began scratching away at the SBVC lead, getting as close as four points midway through the second half before the Wolverines pulled away again. West LA picked up the press in the late stages, but could get no closer, as the Wolverines held on for the win.

SBVC's Dominique Daniels led all scorers, dropping in 24 points, hitting 3-of-3 from 3-point range. He got support from Armon Muldrew, who had 21 points, while Chester Makoi posted a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds, while blocking three shots. Kendall Collins added 13 points off the bench for SBVC.

Dyllan Young led West LA with 20 points, with Roy Clarke adding 19.
