No. 1 CCSF one win from state tourney after beating No. 17 Cabrillo

SAN FRANCISCO – The top-seeded City College of San Francisco men's basketball team continued its surge towards a state championship with a 79-69 win over No. 17 Cabrillo College on Thursday night in Round 2 of the Northern California Regional Playoffs.

The Rams are one win away from advancing to their sixth consecutive California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championship tournament. CCSF will host No. 9 Los Medanos College on Saturday (Mar. 5) at 7:30 p.m. in a third-round playoff game in San Francisco.

Ticket prices for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) postseason game at the CCSF Wellness Center's Brad Duggan Court are $12 for general admission and $8 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children under 12 years old. Saturday's contest will also be streamed live by NorCal SportsTV on YouTube.

CCSF extended its winning streak to 24 games and improved to 28-1 with Thursday's victory over Cabrillo. The contest was close early as the teams were tied 35-35 at halftime and were all even at 54-54 with 10:14 to go in the second half.

But a 10-0 run by the Rams put them in front for good at 64-54 with seven minutes to play.

Jamir Thomas sank 5 three-pointers on his way to a team-high 23 points. Naseem Gaskin totaled 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks while Mezziah Oakman had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Los Medanos pulled out a 66-65 win at No. 8 Santa Rosa Junior College on Thursday in its second-round game. Zack Martinez nailed a turn-around three-pointer at the buzzer to secure the Mustangs' trip to The City. Los Medanos has won six straight and enters Saturday's contest with a 24-5 overall record.
