Just 2:14 into Wednesday night's Coast Conference opener at De Anza, the West Valley basketball was tied 6-6 with the Mountain Lions. Four minutes later, the Vikings were up 18-6 and were looking at De Anza in the rearview mirror.
Mahmoud Fofana hit a bucket just before the buzzer to stretch WVC's lead to 61-35 at the break, capping a dominant first half that saw Sufyan Elkannan drain a trio of treys, including back-to-backers at 2:05 and 1:39, and Ben Baker equaling Fofana with 11 points.
Malik Patton got the second stanza off to a hot start with a pair of put-backs, followed by another three from Elkannan. The Vikings (13-3, 1-0 Coast-South) outscored the Mountain Lions (4-12, 0-1) 26-9 by the 12:20 mark and went over the century mark with :44 remaining on a long three from Noah Yang.
Six Vikings reached double-digits in points, led by Fofana's game-high 20. Baker had 14, Elkannan had 12, while Jacquez Walker and Adam Afifi each had 11, and Quinn Denker finished with 10. Omarian Thomas-Marshall led De Anza with 19.
