Hawks snag final non-conference win over Hartnell

CRC Hawks (5-6) vs. Hartnell College (4-8)

@ Cosumnes River College

Sacramento, Calif -- The Hawks (5-6) faced off against Hartnell (4-8) in their final non-conference game of the season. CRC really looked to establish a strong inside presence with center Dillon Iyawe and forward Christian Hough. The Hawks were bigger and quicker in that position and wanted to take advantage of that.

Head Coach Jonathan James game plan was effective because both Iyawe (23pts 14rbs) and Hough (13pts 10rbs) finished the game with double doubles. CRC's impact on the inside made way for guards to drive the paint with less defensive help to stop them.

Some other strong performances came from guards Adam Orr and Brandon Gray. A normal offensive force for the Hawks, Orr collected 12 points, but it was his improvement on his defense and rebounding that have been standing out during this second half of non-conference play. Orr snagged 7 rebounds versus Hartnell. Our most consistent and reliable player Gray had 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Another important highlight of the game for Cosumnes River was their shooting percentage from the free-throw line hitting almost 80% on 19-for-24. This is an area of the game the Hawks focused on in practice this week and it showed tonight.

CRC has won 3 of their last 4 at home and have two more straight games at Clark Court versus Big8 rivals Sierra and American River.

Next up for the Hawks open up Big 8 Conference play at home against Sierra College at 7:30pm this Thursday, December 19.
