SWEEPING LASERS

SWEEPING LASERS

The No. 2 in state FC men's basketball team took a trip to No. 20 Irvine Valley College on Wednesday night and swept past the Lasers 77-63.

The victory puts Fullerton at 17-1 overall and 7-0 in the Orange Empire Conference sitting all alone in first place after Cypress stunned No. 4 Santiago Canyon College at home last night 79-70. The IVC loss lands the Lasers at 10-6 overall and 2-3 in the OEC.

It was the third straight game where the Hornets had to come from behind after trailing at halftime. Down 34-30 heading into the second half, the Hornets turned it on at the 14-minute mark on a driving layup by Ronnie Stapp (43-41) that began a 10-1 run. IVC made a little run of it own getting within a point (53-52) on a layup by JT Robinson, but the Hornets broke the game open taking their biggest lead of 17 with just 43 seconds left to play. The game was a battle for the first three fourths with 9 ties and 10 lead changes, but FC's hot hand from the 3-point line (3 out 4) along with a strong defensive effort in the last 7 minutes made all the difference.

Ronnie Stapp had a game-high 24 points for the Hornets. Gaven Ramirez and Tristan Williams both contributed 13 points each. Chazz Hutchison and Ryan Blackmon dealt out 8 points apiece.

Up Next: Fullerton (17-1 overall, 7-0 OEC) will take on a very hot Cypress College squad this Friday, January 28th in the Hornets Nest. Tipoff is at 6:00 pm. Can't make the game in person? Watch it live here!
