Men’s Basketball: Roadrunners win second straight, beat El Camino 89-71

WHITTIER --- It's been a rough 2021-22 men's basketball season for Rio Hondo College. But with their team roster down to just five players, the Roadrunners are playing some of their best ball of the season.

On Monday, Rio Hondo won its second straight game and defeated visiting El Camino College by a final score of 89-71. This came just three days after the Roadrunners snapped a season-long 19-game losing streak on Friday with a much-needed victory at Pasadena City College.

Rio Hondo put together a 17-1 run in the first half on Monday to build up a 46-30 lead at halftime over El Camino. The Roadrunners were able to hold off the Warriors in the second on their way to the win.

All five Roadrunners scored in double figures. Matthew Turner-Bigbee and Alwyn Saddler IV both scored 20 points each. Chris Herrera put up 17 points and Andre Batiste posted a double-double with 16 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Sebastian Lara also poured in 16 points.

Rio Hondo improved to 3-20 overall and 1-4 in South Coast Conference North Division play. The Roadrunners are back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 16) when they host Los Angeles Trade-Tech College in a 5 p.m. SCC game.
