Arzate scores season-high 21 in setback

Yuba College opened the second half with a 14-2 run on Sunday and went on to defeat SBCC 83-69 on Day 3 of the Hancock Home Motors Tournament.

The 49ers (6-2) won the rebounding battle 47-23 and their bench outscored the Vaqueros' reserves 61-19.

SBCC took an early 19-12 lead on a jumper by Adrian Juilland-Johnson and led 40-38 at intermission. Four minutes into the second half, Yuba completed its 14-2 burst to take a 52-42 advantage.

Daniel Arzate, a freshman guard from Dos Pueblos High, shot 8-16 and 3-7 on 3's for a season-high 21 points. He also had four steals and three assists.

Kile Kleiner added 17 points and five rebounds while Nicholas Muerzl had 12 points for the Vaqueros (0-6).

Ty Burrell led Yuba with 26 points and 10 rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench. He hit 6-12 from 3-point range. Jacob Henry, another sub, added 13 points, six rebounds and six assists.

The 49ers converted 9-of-20 from long distance and the Vaqueros were 9-35.

The Vaqueros will take 11 days off for the Thanksgiving holiday. They'll open play in the Monterey Bay Classic on Thursday, Dec. 5 against Monterey Peninsula at 5 p.m.
