Men’s Basketball: Herrera, Batiste double-doubles lead Rio Hondo to win over PCC

WHITTIER --- Chris Herrera totaled game-highs of 22 points and 11 assists while Andre Batiste posted 15 points and 10 rebounds to help lead Rio Hondo College to an 87-65 South Coast Conference North Division win over visiting Pasadena City College on Thursday night.

The Roadrunners trailed 24-20 late in the first half before closing out the period with an 11-2 run to take a 31-26 lead into the break. Rio Hondo went on to outscore Pasadena (1-25, 0-8 SCC) 56-39 in the second to cruise to the win.

Rio Hondo sank 11 three-pointers in the contest, including five from Alwyn Saddler IV as he totaled 17 points. Mathew Turner-Bigbee had a solid game with 17 points and 9 rebounds while Sebastian Lara chipped in with 16 points and 6 rebounds.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Roadrunners as they improved to 4-23 overall and 2-5 in the SCC North. Rio Hondo wraps up the season on Friday (Feb. 25) with a 5 p.m. conference game at Mt. San Antonio College.
