EL CAJON – The Grossmont College Griffins opened Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play against the two-time defending champions, and State ranked No. 5 San Diego City College Knights. The Knights looked every bit as the fifth best team in the State as they defeated the Griffins 101-82 in front of 75 enthusiastic fans inside The Griffin Arena.

"I'm proud of how we competed tonight," head coach Doug Weber said.

Brandon Tully had a game-high for Grossmont (5-6, 0-1 PCAC) with 25 points in the loss. Samuel Stewart IV chipped in 16 points and seven steals. While Tre Edmonds and Daevin Celaya each had 10 points.

Five Knights (9-3, 1-0 PCAC) scored in double figures including Anthony Howell who had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

The Griffins will try and get back on the winning tracks on Friday as they travel to The Den to take on Southwestern College for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
