Men’s Basketball: Roadrunners battle but fall in overtime to Cerro Coso

Sebastian Lara scored a season-high 25 points and Andre Batiste posted a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds but it wasn't enough to lift Rio Hondo College to a win as the Roadrunners suffered a tough 81-76 loss in overtime to visiting Cerro Coso College on Wednesday night.

Rio Hondo was down 31-26 at halftime and rallied late to get back into the game.

Trailing 69-61 with three minutes remaining, the Roadrunners outscored the Coyotes 9-1 to close out the second half. Lara's three-pointer with three seconds left in regulation tied up the contest and sent the game to overtime.

But Cerro Coso scored the first five points of the extra period to pull away for good.

Lara added 8 rebounds to his career-high scoring night. Chris Herrera contributed 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists while George Ashley totaled 9 points and 6 rebounds.

Rio Hondo fell to 1-11 overall and returns to action on Saturday (Dec. 11) when the Roadrunners travel to College of the Canyons for a 5 p.m. non-conference game.
