Men's basketball team gets by Spartans, ready for OEC play

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team recorded its 10th win of the season Friday night.

The Lasers, ranked No. 25 in the state, beat MiraCosta, 56-51, in a game at the Cypress Crossover event at Cypress.

Freshman guard JT Robinson led the way with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Sophomore forward Aashad Womack added 13 points and 12 rebounds and freshman forward Colby Waite had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists for the Lasers.

Sophomore post player Austin Carter contributed seven points for IVC.

The difference was Irvine Valley at the free throw line. The Lasers went 14 of 17 from the charity stripe, while the Spartans went just 2 of 4.

Irvine Valley also out-rebounded MiraCosta, 39-30, in the contest.

The Lasers play again next Friday.

And it is the first Orange Empire Conference game of the season. IVC takes on defending state champion and current undefeated and No. 2-ranked in the state Fullerton at 6 p.m.
