Los Angeles, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Men's Basketball Team closed out January with another win, defeating Los Angeles City 75-56. With this victory, the Mounties have won 15 straight games, bringing their record to 21-1, while the Cubs fall to 10-12.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Cubs got on the board with a jump shot and a three-pointer from AJ Robinson to take an early lead. However, after a quick timeout, the Mounties regrouped and quickly took control of the game. Contributions from Jon McCullough, Ryan Wheeler and Kenneth Brown helped the Mounties seize the lead and never look back.

Jaidyn Simpson was a standout in the first half, leading the way offensively and defensively with 12 points—six of which came from free throws—and pulling down eight rebounds. McCullough added nine points, while Brown and Wheeler combined for 10 rebounds to anchor the defense. For LA City, Robinson and Alan Duarte kept the Cubs within striking distance, contributing 14 points combined, but the Mounties went into halftime with a 36-26 lead.

In the second half, Simpson continued his strong performance adding another 12 points. Brown chipped in eight points and grabbed five rebounds, while Wheeler's defense and rebounding kept the Mounties in control. On the other side, Caleb Shepherd had a solid effort for the Cubs, scoring 11 points, and Devean Mpoupe-Singui went a perfect 3-for-3 from the field. Despite a strong push, the Cubs couldn't close the gap, as the Mounties outscored them 39-30 in the second half to secure the win.
