HORNETS PUT A STOP TO CHARGER SURGE

In an Orange Empire Conference game, No. 2 in state Fullerton College took a trip down the 91 Freeway to Cypress College and fended off the Chargers 64-57. 

Cypress came out hot in the first half hitting 8 out of 16 shots from beyond the 3-point arc, while FC was an icy 0-5. By the 11 minute mark, Cypress leapt ahead 21-10 and pushed its lead to 37-26 by the time halftime rolled around. 

Fullerton made its move in the second half going on a huge 17-1 run that was led by a couple of Collin Reed three-pointers that brought the Hornets within one (56-55) with 3 minutes left in the game. Ryan Blackmon was fouled making a move to the basket for two points. He then proceeded to knock down the free throw for a successful for the 3-point play giving FC a 59-56 lead. With 2 minutes left, the Hornets never let up keeping the Chargers from getting clean shots, while separating themselves for the 64-57 victory. 

Leading the way for Fullerton was Chazz Hutchison with 15 points and 14 rebounds for another double-double. Ryan Blackmon and Collin Reed both scored 11 points, while Tristan Williams pitched in 8.  

Up Next: The Hornets (22-2 overall, 12-1 OEC) will get back at it for the final away game of the regular season on February 23rd when they take on No. 13 Santiago Canyon College. Game time is at 6:00 pm.
