City Starts With a 32-2 Run in Blowout Win Over Mesa

San Diego City had an remarkable start against Mesa on Friday by scoring the game's first 13 points and then getting out to a 32-2 lead eight minutes in as they cruised to a 97-62 home victory over Mesa (5-3, 0-1 PCAC) to improve to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the PCAC. Jonathan Ogugua led City with 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, and four steals.

Five other Knights scored in double figues, including Josh Williams and Taleh Wade who each put in 12 points a piece. Drew Cisse (11 points, five rebounds), Noah Viera (11 points, six rebounds) and Raphael Allen (11 points, two rebounds) also reached double figures. 

It was the second consecutive game where six Knights scored 10 or more points and the fourth time this season that at least five have reached the mark.

The Knights started the game on fire as they converted on nine of their first 10 attempts. Twelve of their first 15 buckets came by way of dunks or layups as they jumped out to a 32-2 lead. 

The Knights shot 60.5% in the first half, while holding Mesa to 23.1% as their lead grew to 60-16 by halftime. 

Although they cooled off a little in the second half, the Knights took their largest lead (83-33) with 9:07 remaining. 

It was an impressive way to end 2021 as the Knights earned their second straight win and their seventh in the last eight games. 

The Knights will be off for nearly three weeks before resuming play with a road game at Southwestern on January 5. They will be back home on January 7 against Imperial Valley at 5 p.m.
