Men's Basketball Wins Home Opener In OT

It took an extra five minutes of action but the Reedley College Tiger men's basketball team opened the season with a 91-84 overtime win over the Modesto Junior College Pirates on Nov. 5 in Reedley.

Sophomore Hassan Bolden (Madera South) scored eight of his game-high 29 points in the extra period for Reedley. Bolden also added 14 rebounds and four assists. He also picked up a Class B technical foul for holding himself up on the rim after a first-half dunk.

Modesto tied the game in the final seconds of regulation on a basket by Brandyn Waterford. Tiger head coach T.J. Jennings said that the Reedley defense was making sure that the Pirates didn't get open for a game-winning three before allowing the tying basket.

A Bolden basket put the Tigers ahead to stay before he made two of Reedley's 14 3-pointers in the contest to put the contest out of reach.

Freshman guard Anthony Martinez (Clovis) made four treys in the first half as Reedley built a 49-40 halftime lead. Martinez added another 3 in the second half and finished with 22 points. His regular 3-point play were the final Tiger points in regulation. Braxton Hicks' (Edison, Fresno) only basket of the game gave RC the lead with just over a minute left. Richard Corona (Clovis East) came off the bench and finished with 14 points.

Modesto reserve forward Inder Sandhu had 17 of his 29 points in the first half while Amrit Dhaliwal added 21 points.

Reedley returns to the court on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Saratoga against West Valley College. The Tigers play in the West Hills Lemoore Tournament on Nov. 14-16 before returning home to host Cerro Coso on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 6 pm.
