KNIGHT MEN FINISH SIXTH IN VISALIA

VISALIA, Calif. – Shasta College's men's basketball team lost two out of three games at the Kirby Mannon Pepsi/Wyndham Hotel Tournament in Visalia over the weekend.

The Knights lost to CCCAA's No. 12 ranked team Cerritos 76-67 in the opener, beat El Camino 96-82, and lost to Pasadena City 67-52.

Sophomore Kellen Gerig was the only Shasta player to score in double figures in every game while Hunter Johnson averaged a double-double across the tournament with 14.3 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Shasta was outscored 37-27 in the second half against Cerritos, shooting 35 percent from the floor and 23 percent from 3-point range compared to 50 percent on both for Cerritos. Sophomore Blake Trent hit six of the Knights' 12 3s in the game for a team-high 18 points. Gerig poured in 17 points, Johnson recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds, and Zach Lowe chipped in with 13 points.

In the second game of the tournament, Shasta trailed by 16 at halftime before outscoring El Camino 53-23 in the second half. The Knights shot 56 percent from the floor in the second half and held the edge on the boards 30-12 in that span, making 14 of 16 free throws. Gerig scored a season-high 29 points, Johnson added another double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds, and Trent scored 11 points on three 3s.

Gerig was the only double-digit scorer for Shasta in the loss to Pasadena City with 10 points. Lowe scored nine points, Johnson added seven points and a team-high nine rebounds, and sophomore Grant Smith scored seven points off the bench. Shasta shot 27 percent from the floor in the game.

Shasta (8-7), which has lost four of its past five games, opens the College of the Siskiyous Tournament Thursday against Umpqua College.
