Pirates continue to roll with big road win at Riverside

RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College women's basketball team continues to get better and better with each game and for the rest of California community college women's basketball, that's a scary thought.

With more balance to the team, both in minutes played and points scored, the Pirate weapons were on full display on Tuesday at Riverside City College, where Coast cruised to a 96-48 Orange Empire Conference win over the host Tigers inside the Wheelock Gym.

Hailey Estrada came off the bench and led the Pirates with 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals for the state's No. 4-ranked Pirates. Myia Collins notched an impressive double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Sabrina Lopez added 15 points and seven boards.

OCC's "big three" scorers of Ashari Cassell (10 points), Bridgette McIntyre (10 points, 10 rebounds) and Jordan Arreola (eight points, six assists) were all held considerably below their season averages ... and the Pirates STILL put up 96 points.

The Pirate defense held the Tigers to just 24.6% shooting from the floor, including 0-for-10 from 3-point range, while the Pirates found their shots and hit 43.7% of them, including 10 made 3's. OCC forced 23 RCC turnovers and converted them into 30 points.

Coast cruised in every quarter, outscoring the Tigers by double figures in each.

The Pirates will return to the Peterson Gym on Thursday against Santa Ana College, beginning at 7 p.m.
