The inaugural Bob Burton Classic was a showcase for a deep, talented West Valley basketball team, as the Vikings rolled with convincing wins over College of Marin and Cosumnes River last weekend in Saratoga.

West Valley over Marin 108-87

The Vikings (4-0) recorded their third-straight triple-digit output Friday in their 108-87 wire-to-wire win over Marin (1-5). Adam Afifi hit a trey 18 seconds in to give WVC a lead they wouldn't surrender. Led by Afifi's 12 first-half points, the Vikings led the Mariners 52-34 at the break. The Vikings would extend their lead to 96-66 at the six-minute mark, before Marin hit four threes to close the gap before the final horn.

Quinn Denker topped six Vikings in double figures with 20 points, to go along with four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. Jacquez Walker and Mahmoud Fofana each had 15 points, followed by Afifi and Ben Baker with 14 apiece. Fofana also had seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks, while Afifi finished with nine of WVC's 54 boards, four assists and and two blocks. Baker grabbed six rebounds, handed out five assists and had a trio of steals. WVC depth showed in the stats, as Anyel Ortiz dished out five assists, Dage Lyons grabbed six rebounds and Malik Patton pulled down four boards. Christopher Rendon led the Mariners with 20 points.

West Valley over Cosumnes River 90-69

The Vikings found themselves down 8-2 to a motivated CRC squad Saturday afternoon. But a long Baker three ignited a 17-5 WVC run that featured six points from Denker, five from Baker, four from Afifi, and two from Kai Raine-Lee. The lead grew to 26-13 and a Walker three made it 41-26 just before the end of the opening half. CRC's Patrick Parkes Jr. hit a bucket at the buzzer and the teams headed to the locker room with the Vikings up 41-28. Parkes hit for 11 points in the final five minutes to keep it interesting, but Afifi drained a big three-pointer at 3:30 to make it 86-65.

Afifi, Baker and Fofana all finished with 19 points, with Afifi connecting on four treys. Afifi had nine of WVC's 45 rebounds, while Fofana pulled down eight, to go along with three steals. Denker finished with 10 points, eight assists, six rebounds and a steal. Baker's line had four rebounds, three assists and a steal. Parkes led CRC (3-1) with 15 points.

West Valley travels to City College of San Francisco (4-0) Friday for a battle of the north's top two teams. Tipoff is 5:00pm.
