The San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team was held to 35.8 percent shooting from the field, and one extra missed free throw ended up being the difference as the Wolverines fell to Cerro Coso 69-68 Wednesday night.

SBVC ended the night 15-of-19 from the free throw line, while the Coyotes went 13-of-16 from the charity stripe, as both teams' defense made it difficult to make shots from the field. Cerro Coso ended up shooting only slightly better -35.9 percent - on the night.

The Coyotes led pretty much the whole way, leading by as many as 13, as SBVC worked from behind the entire night. SBVC finally took their first lead of the game with 55 seconds remaining after Brandon Betson sank a 3-pointer to make the score 68-67.

After getting a stop on the next Cerro Coso possession, the Wolverines tried to work the clock, but Nathan Pendarvis' shot was blocked by Alex Dieudonne. The Coyotes went down the floor, and Jordan Pumphrey missed a 3-pointer, but Vernon Hardison got the rebound for Coso, and put it back in to give the Coyotes the lead with 8 seconds to go. After a time out, SBVC hustled the ball down the floor, but the ball was knocked away from Pendarvis, and off of him out of bounds, sealing the game.

Betson led all scorers in the game with 29 points, while Jordan Jones was the only other Wolverine in double figures with 10. Cameron Butler pulled down 15 rebounds.

Cerro Coso was led by Pumphrey with 20 points, while Dieudonne had 18. Vernon Hardison had four blocked shots, as the Coyotes blocked eight in the game.

Before the game, the Wolverines hosted families from Down Syndrome Family Resource Center, as the players interacted with the children and families, signing autographs and giving them T-shirts.
