Warriors Fade Late At Compton

COMPTON, Calif. - The El Camino College men's basketball lost 68-59 at Compton College on Friday evening.

The Warriors (6-18, 1-5) trailed by one at halftime with the scoreline of 32-31 in favor of the Tartars (12-12, 4-2).  The Warriors were only down by four points (54-50) with 9:16 left in the game, but the Tartars pulled away and went on a 14-0 scoring run with the Warriors not making a basket for more than seven minutes.   By the time Jamal Howard made a three-point basket, the Tartars were ahead 68-53.  

The Warriors actually outshot Compton 40% to 37.5% for the evening. And the free throw advantage wasn't that big either with Compton 11-for-17 from the line and El Camino 9-for-15 from the line.  But the main story of the game was that the Warriors had 27 turnovers compared to Compton's 13 turnovers and the Tartars scored 33 points off turnovers.  

Jamal Howard led the offense with his second double-double of the season.  Howard had 22 points with 10 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Jason Vasquez reached double-figures with 15 points.

DeAnte Wilkins led the Tartar's offense with 22 points.

The Warriors return to the ECC Gym Complex for their name game on Wednesday, February 12th.  They will play hosts to LA Harbor with tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
