The West Valley basketball team dropped out of a tie for first in the Coast-South Conference with a gut-wrenching 69-68 loss to visiting San Jose City Friday night.
 
The Vikings (15-10, 6-4 Coast-South) led 38-36 at the half but were outscored by the Jaguars 33-30 after the break in the tight back-and-forth Valentines Day affair.
 
Ben Baker led the WVC scoresheet with 22 points, and Adam Afifi had 16. Devon Banks drained three treys on his way to 11 points. Decaurey Brown paced City with a game-high 25.
 
Now trailing Cabrillo and Monterey Peninsula by a game in the standings, the Vikings host rival De Anza (12-14, 5-5) Wednesday (2/19) in the regular season home finale. The ball goes up at 7:00pm.
