EJ Bushner scored 17 points on Wednesday night and Kevin Fassu added 16 points and six rebounds as L.A. Pierce held off SBCC to record a 60-51 win in the Sports Pavlion.
The Brahmas (15-12, 6-5 WSC North) are the No. 1 3-point shooting team in the state at 41.4% but struggled on Wednesday, going 0-14 from beyond the arc. SBCC was a little better at 3-23.
Adrian Juilland-Johnson scored 10 of his 14 points in the first half for the Vaqueros (1-24, 0-11). He also grabbed nine rebounds and made three steals.
Calvin Weinstock, a 6-5 freshman from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., notched season highs in points (11) and rebounds (9).
Pierce led 10-3 in the opening minutes and took a 35-28 halftime advantage on 46.4% shooting. They dropped down to 27.3% in the second half.
SBCC won the board battle 48-36 but committed 19 turnovers while forcing just nine. The Brahmas were a plus-10 in free throws, making 16-of-20 compared to 6-9 for SBCC.
The Vaqueros will play their final game on Friday at Moorpark with tip-off at 7 p.m.
