The only thing keeping visiting Los Angeles Harbor College in the game in the first half was the shooting of Ian Konek, who scored 18 of his team's 29 points in the first 20 minutes. The Cerritos College men's basketball team did hold a 42-29 advantage at intermission in their South Coast Conference South Division game en route to an 89-65 victory. The win improved the Falcons to 16-8 overall and maintained their one-game lead in the division with a 5-1 mark. The team will travel to take on crosstown rival Long Beach City College at 7:00 p.m. next Wednesday.
But even while Konek was draining long range shots, the Falcons were able to match that and went on an 18-0 run to open up a 27-15 lead. During that run, sophomore Jeremiah Galang (Narbonne HS) and freshman Dorian Harris (Cerritos HS) each drained three-pointers to help the team open up their lead.
In addition to their success from outside, Cerritos also controlled the boards, as they out-rebounded the Seahawks, 45-27, which included a 15-4 advantage on the offensive end. The ability to rotate players also kept LA Harbor off balance, with the bench contributing 44 points, which included a team-high 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists from freshman Joshua Belvin (St. Anthony HS). Harris added 14 points and seven boards, which included four three-pointers off the bench.
As the game progressed, the Falcons continued to transition down the court with precision and balanced their outside shooting by feeding both Jacob Washington (Washington Prep HS/Los Angeles Harbor College) and Daelyn Bams (Villa Park HS) on the inside. Washington recorded 14 points and added eight rebounds, while Bams posted six points an six rebounds. Seven different players converted at least one three-pointer on the night.
Konek did finish with a game-high 27 points, but shot only 4-for-11 from the field in the second half. Cerritos mixed up their defenses and on three consecutive Harbor possessions had three different players guarding Konek.
Sophomore Jalen Washington (Bishop Montgomery HS) posted 10 points, while freshman Joshua Harrison (Onate, MN HS) dished out five assists.
