Irvine Valley's men's basketball team continued one of the best starts in recent program history with a 84-60 nonconference win over El Camino on Wednesday night at home.
The 24-point victory improved IVC's record to 6-0.
It is the most wins in a row to start a year by the Lasers since the 2013-14 squad began 12-0.
Irvine Valley started slow, trailing, 6-5, after Darrian Williams-Young made a jumper.
But after layup by freshman forward Colby Waite gave Irvine Valley a 7-6 advantage with 15:17 left in the first half, the Lasers never trailed again.
A three-point play by freshman guard Devin Owens put IVC ahead, 13-8, with 11:32 left in the half.
And a three-pointer by freshman forward Jesse Stines and then a basket by freshman guard JT Robinson made it a 18-8 game with 10:44 remaining in the first half.
The Lasers took their largest lead of the first half at 34-21 on a four-point play by Robinson with 1:41 to play.
Irvine Valley led, 45-37, early in the second half, but then went on a 9-1 run to take complete control.
A free throw by Stines put the Lasers ahead, 54-38, with 10:02 to play.
The Lasers used a 12-6 run soon after to jump their lead to 66-44 with 6:28 to play. Freshman guard Aaron Strings nailed a three-pointer to give IVC the 22-point cushion.
Irvine Valley took its largest lead of the game (27 points) with 1:46 left in the contest.
The Lasers were paced by Robinson, who finished with 15 points and three assists. Sophomore guard Christian Louis added 13 points, Owens contributed 10 points, Waite had eight points and five rebounds and Stines finished with eight points and three rebounds.
Sophomore forward Austin Carter also had seven points and nine rebounds for IVC.
Irvine Valley shot 47.3 percent (26 of 55) for the game and won the battle of the boards, 38-28.
El Camino (1-7) was led by Darrian Williams-Young with 12 points and Rason Crutcher with 10 points.
Irvine Valley plays again next Thursday, taking on Hartnell in the Monterey Peninsula Tournament.
