The Pasadena City College men's basketball team closed out the 2024-25 regular season by securing third place in the South Coast Conference North Division as the Lancers look forward to their third consecutive postseason in the three seasons since head coach Ryan Frazer took over the program.

The Lancers (17-11 overall, finishing 6-4 in division games) played yet another close encounter with fourth-place Los Angeles City College, avenging a 1-point loss at home on Feb. 5 with a 63-61 triumph on LACC's home floor Friday night.

PCC led 22-10 and 30-19 before the pesky Cubs (13-15, 4-6) cut it four by halftime, 34-30. In the second half, PCC built the lead to 48-35 on a 3-pointer by LaQwon Cole. The frosh reserve guard swished another trey that made it 59-48 with 6:23 left.

However, LACC responded as Kodee Holloway scored eight straight points (two 3-pointers) and then Makael Reynolds buried another bomb that tied it at 59-59 with 3:49 remaining.

Lancers sophomore point guard Jalen Vazquez, the state leader in assists this season, took matters into his own hands as he drove the lane for a layup, then hit a 15-foot jumper with 2:28 to go for what proved to be the winning baskets. LA City had one last chance to tie it but missed two short attempts in the final seconds.

Second-year wing Dylan Swillis had a big night as he scored 15 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, made five steals and dished out three assists. Vazquez added 14 points, six helpers and five boards while Cole contributed 11 points. Frosh forward Cooper Creamer collected six points and 10 rebounds, Darrius Freeman eight points and sophomore wing Kaiden Fine six points and six rebounds.
