SCC Wins Championship of Santa Ana Tournament with 90-66 Victory

SCC went into the championship game of the Santa Ana Tournament looking to take home another SAC tournament championship. It would be their third in four years. The Hawks accomplished the feat with a sounding 90-66 victory over the Vaqueros of Glendale College. Glendale entered the contest with a record of 2-0, while SCC had a 1-0 record after the win in the first game of the tournament over Long Beach City College. The Hawks jumped out an eight point lead early and maintained it throughout most of the first half. SCC led 40-30 at halftime. David Agba led the way with 10 points, while Preston Sims chipped in with 9. Agba also snared 5 rebounds in the half. The Hawks only shot 41.9% in the half, but their swarming defense held Glendale to 39% shooting from the field and 0 for 6 from the three-point line.
SCC built a comfortable lead during the second half and led by 26 with 3:39 left in the game. Strong bench play was the key to the second half surge. Erik Howlin led the way with 12 points in the half and finished as the second leading scorer with 15 points. Josh Griffin added 12 points. Luke Guzman finished with 7 points and Cameron Calcote scored 6 points. SCC's bench outscored Glendale's by the margin of 42-26. The leading scorer in the game was Preston Sims who finished with 19 points for the Hawks. Agba contributed 14 points and a game high 12 rebounds. Calcote led the team with 4 assists.
Santiago Canyon looks to continue their solid start to the season with 2 home games this week. The first will be on Wednesday, November 10th at 5:00pm vs. Chaffey College. The second game will be on Friday, November 12th at 6:00pm vs. Mira Costa College.
