Valley downs cold-shooting Vaqueros, 76-42

L.A. Valley took command with a 30-3 first-half run on Friday and went on to beat SBCC 76-42 in a consolation semifinal of the L.A. Southwest Intensity Classic.

The Vaqueros led 6-2 in the opening minutes, then made just one field goal in the next 12 minutes as the Monarchs (3-8) used a 30-3 burst to take a 32-9 lead with 4:03 left. Valley led 38-13 at intermission.

The Vaqueros (1-10) were outshot 46.7 to 19 percent in the opening half and 49.1 to 26 percent for the game. The Monarchs hit 50 percent from 3-point range (6-12) while the Vaqueros were 1-14.

Dejon Jackson led Santa Barbara with 10 points and four rebounds. Aaron Mejia added nine points and Donald Grant had seven rebounds.

SBCC will take three weeks off for the holidays, then return to action on Friday, Jan. 5 at the Cuesta Winter Classic vs. No. 1 San Bernardino Valley at 5 p.m.
