Comets push past Jaguars to keep playoff hopes alive

SAN MARCOS, CA (2/4/2022) -- In their first matchup of the season, Palomar defeated the Southwestern College Jaguars 53-49 in the Dome. 

Ending in a stalemate at halftime, the Comets came to life in the second half to outscore the Jaguars 23-19. Palomar finished the night with 37 rebounds and 11 turnovers to Southwestern's 31 and 14. 

Freshman guard Mickey Chew was the leading scorer with 14 points while sophomore forward Chris Howard finished with 11. The team's leading rebounder, freshman guard Clyde Harris crashed the boards to get 10 rebounds. 

Palomar shot 28.8% in the field and 66.7% at the free-throw line. 

The men are sitting in fourth place in the PCAC with a 13-8 overall record and 6-4 conference record. They will face San Diego Mesa College on Wednesday Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. on the road.
