6TH STRAIGHT IN SAN DIEGO

The No. 1 in state Hornets traveled down south to No. 14 San Diego City College on Saturday afternoon and cut through the Knights 70-61.

Fullerton head coach Perry Webster got the chance to play Chess, in a sense, against his mentor Andy Ground, the interim Head Coach at San Diego City. Webster played and coached under Ground at Saddleback where he helped the team to a state title in 2010 as a player and again as a coach in 2015.

In the first half both teams exchanged points with Fullerton trailing 23-22 on a jump shot by Chazz Hutchison at 5:28. Ronnie Stapp's three-pointer soon put FC on top 26-25, and the Hornets took off on a 6-1 mini-run grabbing a 32-26 lead by halftime.

The Hornets kept their distance in the second half expanding the lead to 17 points (60-43) on a lay-in by RJ Banks with just over eight minutes left to play.

San Diego City did its best to get back into the game closing the gap down to nine points (68-59) with under a minute left in regulation, but the damage was done as Fullerton earned its sixth consecutive win on the season.

The difference-maker was shooting as FC held the Knights to 38% shooting. The Hornets were once again strong in the paint outscoring San Diego City 34-20.

Kobe Newton came off the bench to score a team-high 19 points and was 5-9 from beyond the three-point line. Chazz Hutchison earned a double-double dropping in 17 points with 10 rebounds. RJ Banks had 12 points with 5 assists, while Ronnie Stapp chipped in with 8 points.

Up Next: The Hornets (6-0 overall) hit the road again on Thursday, December 2nd when they take on Mt. San Jacinto College (4-2) at 5:00 pm.
