CMC MBB Weekly Round-Up: Cacti Go 1-2 at Miramar Tournament

San Diego, CA - The Cacti Men's team travelled to Dan Diego Miramar for a season opening tournament. Copper Mountain drew San Diego City College, preseason #7, in the opening round. The first half was back and forth until the Knights pulled away a bit before the buzzer to lead 41-32 at the break. San Diego proved to have a bit more fire power on this day as the ended up on top in this contest by a score of 91-71. Tyler Hudson led the Cacti with 25 points on 7/13 shooting including 4/7 from three. He would also add 7 points from the charity stripe. Jaylan Bradburry added 11 points while going 3/4 from three. Travion Jackson and Mikah Blackwell had 10 apiece in the loss.

On Friday, the Cacti would take on Golden West College at the Miramar tournament. The Cacti were dominant on both ends of the floor in the first half as the as the led 42-19 at the break. They held Golden West to 23% shooting in that first half as the Cacti would finish the half shooting 47%. CMC would cruise to a 85-62 victory to even their overall record at 1-1. Mikah Blackwell and Tyler Hudson each contributed 18 points. Jaylan Bradberry had 14 and Cris Dominguez poured in 12 in the victory.

The Cacti found themselves in the consolation champioship on Saturday as the would take on Orange Coast College. Defensively, the Cacti struggled to rotate out to shooters in time as OCC made 11 threes on 38% shooting from deep. Offensively, the Cacti had turnover issues as they collected a season high 22. At the end, the Pirates found themselves on top of the Cacti 86-83. Mikah Blackwell was very efficient on the day as he had 29 points on 11/13 shooting. Travion Jackson had 16 and Jaylan Bradberry had 12. 

The men travel to San Bernardino for a three day tournamnet starting Friday November 12. The first round opponent will be West LA at 1:00 PM. Please view www.sbvcathletics.com for their spectator policies if you plan to go out and support the men.
