West Hills closes out Coach Treggs Classic with narrow losses

After upsetting No. 23 state-ranked College of the Redwoods on Thursday, West Hills College Coalinga couldn't keep the momentum going and suffered a pair of losses to close out the Coach Tregs Classic in Eureka.

The Falcons were edged 65-62 on Friday by Shasta College and wrapped up the tourney with another narrow defeat, falling 82-78 to Southwestern Oregon Community College on Saturday.

Jabari Merritt continued his impressive season. He totaled 23 points and 8 rebounds against Shasta and put up another 23 points and had 9 rebounds with 5 assists vs. Southwestern Oregon.

Tyrell Edwards and Fredery Cuello both scored 8 points each against Shasta. Cuello matched Merritt against Southwestern Oregon, as he poured in 23 points to go with 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Devion Edwards posted his first double-double of the season, as he totaled 10 points and 12 rebounds against Southwestern Oregon.

West Hills Coalinga fell to 3-7 and returns to tournament action on Friday (Dec. 10) when the Falcons will compete at the two-day Modesto Junior College Tournament. WHCC is set to face Lassen Community College in its opener at 7 p.m.
