Porterville edges DeAnza 87-85 for home-opening win

Da'Morea Green posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Darion "DJ" Wilson came off the bench to score a team-high 18 points to help lead Porterville College to an 87-85 win over visiting DeAnza College in the Pirates' home opener on Tuesday night.

The non-conference victory evened PC's record to 1-1 this season.

Trailing 41-39 at the break, Porterville came-through with a second-half rally to pull out the win. The Pirates went on to outscore DeAnza 48-44 in the second. PC outrebounded DeAnza by a 53-36 margin which led to numerous second-chance opportunities.

Wilson sparked the Pirates to the win with his contributions off the bench. He shot 9 of 13 from the field, grabbed 5 rebounds, and had 2 assists.

Green added a pair of steals and assists to his double-double. Elijah Cardenas (15 points, 3 rebounds) and Treager Wallace (14 points, 8 rebounds) also played big roles in the win.

Porterville will look to keep the momentum going when it begins tournament play on Friday (Nov. 16) at the Bakersfield College Renegade Classic. The Pirates open the tourney with a 4 p.m. game against host Bakersfield.
