SBVC Rebounds With Victory over Santa Monica

After having their seven-game winning streak snapped last weekend in the championship game of the West Los Angeles College tournament, the San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team was looking for a quick start to bounce back to their winning ways.

Wednesday night, the Wolverines got it against Santa Monica College.

SBVC opened the game with an 11-0 run, holding the Corsairs scoreless for more than five minutes as the Wolverines cruised to a 69-54 victory.

Early on it was 7-footer Chester Makoi leading the way, as he dominated in the paint, accounting for seven of SBVC's first 11 points. Meanwhile, on the other end, SBVC used a smothering defense to hold the Corsairs to 25.9 percent shooting in the first half, as the Wolverines went to the break with a 35-16 lead.

The Wolverines continued to push forward in the second half, opening up a 28-point lead - it's largest of the game - less than four minutes into the period. Overall, the Wolverines forced 16 Santa Monica turnovers, which led directly to 21 points. And the Wolverines outscored the Corsairs 26-8 in the paint.

SBVC's Armon Muldrew led all scorers, dropping in 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Dominique Daniels added 15 points along with eight assists. Tynerion Jackson had nine points, while Makoi and Deven Fortune ended the game with eight points apiece.

Alex Villi led the Corsairs with 14 points.
