KNIGHTS LOSE TWO AT DIABLO VALLEY TOURNAMENT

PLEASANT HILL, Calif. – The Shasta College men's basketball team lost both games of the Diablo Valley College Tournament over the weekend, falling to Contra Costa 72-63 and Diablo Valley 70-59.

In the loss to Contra Costa, Shasta shot 2 of 17 from the 3-point line in the game and compiled 19 turnovers. The Knights did outscore the Comets 41-40 in the second half. Freshman Jalen Evans paced the Knights with a double-double, dropping in 24 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Freshman Michael Plunkitt also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists as Shasta got 25 bench points, led by nine points from Elijah Ramirez.

Against tournament host Diablo Valley, Shasta shot 4 of 20 from 3 and 3 of 9 from the free throw line to be outscored 40-29 in the second half. Corey Busta led Shasta with 20 points, freshman Zach Thompson added 19 points and a team-best six rebounds and Plunkitt chipped in with nine assists.

Shasta (2-8), losers of three straight, plays in the College of Sequoias Wyndham Classic on Friday and Saturday.
