SHASTA COLLEGE OUTLASTS MERRITT 65-63

OAKLAND, Calif. –  Shasta College's men's basketball team split two games at Merritt College over the weekend, beating Merritt 65-63 and losing to Chabot College 80-64.

The Knights trailed Merritt at the half 27-24 and made nine 3-pointers and only committed five turnovers in the game. Brendan Hoag came off the bench to lead Shasta with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Zach Thompson chipped in 12 points on four 3s. Mike Maasen scored 11 points Jalen Evans added nine points and Michael Plunkitt had a team-best five assists.

In the loss Sunday at Chabot, Shasta committed a season-worst 26 turnovers and only made five 3-pointers. The Knights were led again by a reserve as sophomore Tanner Guinn scored a team-best 13 points off the bench. Plunkitt scored 12 points and dished four assists. Evans grabbed a team-best nine rebounds while adding six points.

Shasta (1-3) hosts the Shasta College Invitational Friday through Sunday, opening against Santa Rosa Junior College Friday at 7 p.m. The Knights play against Foothill College Saturday at 5 p.m. and host Diablo Valley College Sunday at 4 p.m.
