MEN’S BASKETBALL: OUT-GUNNING LASERS

The No. 5 FC men's basketball squad ripped off their second consecutive conference-win at home Wednesday night after getting past Irvine Valley College 65-57.

The victory paces Fullerton at 8-2 for the Orange Empire Conference title race, while giving them an overall record of 19-2. Santiago Canyon remains in first with Riverside City a game up in second place. The Laser loss kicks them down to 3-6 in the OEC with an overall record of 13-8.

Both IVC and Fullerton came out exchanging shots to a 14-14 tie by the fourteen-minute mark. The Lasers jumped ahead 28-20 on a three-point shot by Colby Waite at 7:13, and then held on to a 35-29 lead to end the half.

Continuing the battle deep into the second half, Fullerton saw an opportunity late in the game and took advantage. The game was tied 55-55 at just under two minutes, and the Hornet's Ronnie Stapp knocked down a deep three. On the next possession, FC did it again with 58 seconds left Omajae Smith's shot from beyond the arc putting the team up 61-57.

With time running out, the Lasers had no choice but to put the Hornets on the line by fouling. Ryan Perry and Smith put the game on ice making all of their free throws.
