EL CAJON – After an explosive first half, the Griffin Men's Basketball team hung on to win 85-82 against District rival Cuyamaca College on Friday, Jan. 13 at the Griffin Arena.

Five Griffins (7-10, 2-4 PCAC) scored in double figures led by Brandon Tully's 18 points and Samuel Stewart IV's 16 rebounds.

Grossmont was scorching hot in the first half jumping out to a 60-34 lead at the break. But the hot shooting cooled off in the second half.

"I was proud of our guys tonight," Grossmont head coach Doug Weber said after the game. "We had five guys in double figures and Sammy was a rebounding machine. We were aggressive on the offensive end with 40 offensive rebounds."

The 40 offensive rebounds and 70 total rebounds were both season highs. Both marks were previously set against Palo Verde during the 50th Annual Grossmont College Basketball Tournament.

With the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference having an odd number of teams, the first of two Monday games this season will occur on the road against MiraCosta (Jan. 16) with tip set for 6:00 p.m.
