Men’s Basketball: Rio Hondo falls 78-60 to San Mesa at home

WHITTIER – Freshman Sebastian Lara scored a game-high 20 points to lead Rio Hondo College in a 78-60 loss to visiting San Diego Mesa College on Wednesday night.

The Roadrunners held an early 13-6 advantage with 13 minutes to play in the first half but San Diego Mesa (6-2) went on to outscore Rio Hondo 19-3 over the next seven minutes to go ahead for good. A 36-27 deficit at halftime was too much for the Roadrunners to overcome.

Lara shot 6 for 15 from the field, including 4 for 10 from three-point range on his way to his 20 points. He has scored in double figures in 12 consecutive games and is averaging 14.4 points per game this season.

George Ashley added 13 points and Alwyn Saddler IV contributed 10 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. Chris Herrera totaled 9 points, 6 rebonds, and 3 assists.

Rio Hondo fell to 1-13 overall and hosts Antelope Valley College on Friday (Dec. 17) in a 5 p.m. non-conference game.
