The West Valley basketball team outscored a depleted Hartnell squad 52-22 in the second half and cruised to an 82-45 win over the visiting Panthers Friday night.

West Valley's dynamic duo of Adam Afifi and Ben Baker posted double-doubles to lead the Vikings (15-8, 6-2 Coast-South) to a season sweep of Hartnell (5-19, 1-8), which was down to a six-man active roster. The win kept WVC atop the Coast-South standings, a game ahead of Cabrillo and Monterey Peninsula and two in front of San Jose City..

Baker finished with a game-high 16 points and 16 rebounds - he also handed out four assists - and Afifi had 15 points, 15 boards and four blocked shots. Sufyan Elkannan recorded 13 points and six rebounds, while Ryan Hewitt was a force off the bench with 10 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals.

The Vikings face a pair of tests this week as they head to Monterey Peninsula (9-15, 5-3) Wednesday (2/12) for a 7pm tilt against the Lobos. San Jose City (10-15, 5-4) visits Saratoga Friday (2/14) for a 5:30pm Valentines Day battle.
