MEN'S BASKETBALL: CONSOLATION CHAMPS

After losing a close battle to the #1 team in the state San Bernardino Valley College 76-71 at the Riverside City tournament, the Hornets won the next two games to take the consolation championship.

Against SBVC, Fullerton did their best to upend the best team in the south, but the Wolverines had too much depth and firepower even though FC's Jason Richardson put up a game-high 21 points. The game featured 11 lead changes with Fullerton's biggest lead of 7 coming at 12:01 in the first half. San Bernardino's bench outshot FC's 28-18.

In game two on Saturday, the Hornets pulled out a 65-58 win over Mt. San Jacinto College. Fullerton took control of the game after the first couple of minutes and did not look back. By halftime, the Hornets had a 43-21 lead. The Eagles made a run in the second half getting within 3 points with just under three and a half minutes left in regulation, but the Hornets held on for the win thanks to a pair of free throws by Akil Reese to put the game on ice. Reese produced a double-double scoring 10 points with 11 rebounds. Khalil Stevenson had a game-high 13 points.

In the consolation championship game against Pasadena City College on Sunday, Fullerton outlasted the Lancers 71-57. The Hornets took this game over early opening up with an 11-0 run and finished the half with a 34-23 lead. Reese had another big game scoring 17 points with 8 boards. Vaj Rice and Richardson both put up 11 points with 6 rebounds.

They went on to win their next two games against Mt. San Jacinto 65-58 and Pasadena 71-57 to win the consolation championship.
