Men's Basketball Takes 3rd Place at Monterey Bay Classic

MONTEREY, CA- Cypress men's basketball (6-4) traveled to Monterey, CA for a three day tournament where they faced Diablo Valley, Monterey Peninsula, and Foothill and finished with a 2-1 record on the weekend. Cypress secured 3rd place and guard, Ramiah Adedigba, was selected to the All-Tournament team. 

The Chargers opened up the weekend against the Diablo Valley Vikings on Thursday night. Both teams put up points as they went into halftime tied, 31-31. Cypress took over in the second half scoring 58 points led by Hadi Essayli who had 18 off the bench. The Chargers bench came up big as they knocked down seven threes on fifteen attempts. Four additional players reached double figures, Tommie Flanagan (11), Ramiah Adedigba (13), Paul Head (10), and Denzel Obiaga (11) as the Chargers shot 50% from the field. Essayli flirted with a double-double as he also led the team in rebounds with nine. 

In game two of the tournament, Cypress faced the host college, Monterey Peninsula. The Chargers struggled in the first half as they faced a 17-point deficit heading into halftime. Cypress had two players score in double figures, Ramiah Adedigba (24) and Tommie Flanagan (12), but only shot 34.8% from the field as a team. Despite winning the turnover battle and coming up with 19 steals the Chargers fell, 74-63. 

Cypress faced Foothill College in a battle for the Third Place trophy on Saturday afternoon. Trent Goldman had his breakout game for the Chargers dropping 21 points and shooting 4-of-5 from three-point range. Nijel Jones grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with his team high six assists. Ramiah Adedigba showed out once again for the fourth straight game as he filled up the stat sheet with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block. The Chargers would go on to dominate Foothill 95-62. 

UP NEXT: Cypress will be back on their home floor Tuesday, December 7th, as they host Cuyamaca (3-5) at 5pm. The Chargers have two more non-conference games before OEC play begins on December 15th vs Saddleback.
